Song Sparrow
Melospiza melodia
Size: 5-6"
Male: Common brown sparrow with heavy dark streaks on breast coalescing into a central dark spot.
Female: Same as male.
Juvenile: Similar to adult, finely streaked chest without central spot.
Nest: Female builds cup nest. Two broods per year.
Eggs: 3-4; pale blue to green with reddish brown markings
Incubation: 12-14 days; female incubates
Fledging: 9-12 days; male and female feed young
Migration: The Song Sparrow can be found in St. Charles County year round.
Food: Seeds, insects, and may rarely come to seed feeders.
